What you'll need to hand

Not much. Everything except the ID copies is just typing.

For each director

Directors are the people who manage the company.

  • A certified copy of their ID. SA ID card, front and back, or the photo page of a green ID book. A photo or PDF is fine.
  • Their ID number, mobile and email. Exactly as on the ID.

A certified copy is a photocopy that a police station or commissioner of oaths has stamped as a true copy of the original.

For the company

Typed into the application. No documents needed.

  • A preferred name and a backup. Up to four names help if yours are taken.
  • An address. Your home address works if you don't have a business one.
  • One sentence about what the company will do.
  • Who owns what. Shares as percentages. We add it up for you.

What does the R850 include?

Company name reservation, CIPC registration, your Memorandum of Incorporation, your registration documents, a SARS tax registration number, share certificates and digital delivery.

Two things sit outside it: certifying your ID copies, and courier if you’d like printed copies.

How long does it take?

Typically 3–5 working days from when you pay. CIPC sets the pace, and a name that’s already taken can add time. That’s why we ask for backup names.

What documents do I need?

A certified copy of each director’s ID. Everything else you type into the application.

Can I be the only director and owner?

Yes. A Pty Ltd can have one director, who can also own all the shares. Choose 1 director and give them 100%.

Do I need a business address?

No. Your home address works if you don’t have a business address.

Can I register something other than a Pty Ltd?

Online, we register private companies (Pty Ltd). It’s the most common structure for small South African businesses. Not sure it’s right for you? Call us and we’ll talk it through.

What happens after my company is registered?

You receive your Certificate of Incorporation, MOI, share certificates and SARS tax number digitally, and you can start trading. After that come two ongoing to-dos: annual returns, and a Beneficial Ownership declaration with CIPC. We can file the Beneficial Ownership one for you.
